Entering Medazzaland with Duran Duran

The Kings of '80s music, Duran Duran, recently released a new CD on October 14th entitled "Medazzaland." This CD is a throwback to their '80s music and attitudes, so expect some cool keyboard magic from Nick Rhodes and the full vocal antics of lead singer Simon LeBon.

Unfortunately for the die-hard fans (lovingly called Duranies), the group's lineup has changed over the years: Andy Taylor, guitarist, and Roger Taylor, drummer, both left the group in 1986. Warren Cuccurullo and Sterling Campbell filled in those empty spots, respectively. Warren was made a permanent member in 1990 and Sterling has since left.

Most recently, John Taylor, bassist, left in January 1997 to pursue a solo career and other interests. He still retains his credit on Medazzaland. Medazzaland is a poppy, wonderfully danceable CD. Check out the Consumable Review from Oct. 9, 1997 for more details.

The first single, "Electric Barbarella," is doing well and steadily climbing the charts. Duran Duran also had a accolade to themselves via the "Duran Duran Tribute Album" from Mojo Records released Oct. 7. Sunday, Oct. 12 was the date of the Tribute Concert in Los Angeles. Bands like Reel Big Fish, Goldfinger and Eve's Plumb paid their homage to their favorite band.

Duran Duran had the honor of being the first band to sell their single over the Internet and legally at that.

Completely agree, Diane. I will admit to a little downing at the beginning of a small gig tour and no John. I don't doubt Wes is a good bassist, but dammit, it would have been nice to see all four up ...

I think "Medazzaland" is one of the strongest, if not the strongest Duran Duran release in their history. I love every song on the album, and think that this may be the one to finally give Dur ...
