Update: Depeche Mode and INXS© Michele Morabito
Here is an update from the column's earliest articles to what the artist are doing today and what they have predicted for their careers came true or not.
The first article was in recent times, came to be a sad one. Published on April 25, 1997 and entitled "Return of the Old Guard: New CDs from Depeche Mode and INXS"; we now know that Michael Hutchence either by accident or intention died. The article was about each band's respective new CD, Depeche Mode's (DM) Ultraand INXS's Elegantly Wasted. DM went on to do in 1997 through 1998 (excuse the language) a kick-ass tour for Ultra, released "Singles 86-98" and "Singles 81-85" and were honored with a tribute album called "For the Masses: Music not be Depeche Mode". For Depeche Mode, according to Depechemode.com, main lyricist Martin Gore won a songwriting award on May 27, 1999 for "International Achievement", by the British Academy of Composers & Songwriters. The band is also happy to report that they all expressed positive feelings regarding the future, and they look forward to getting back together in the studio later in the year. INXS has had a harder time with Michael's passing. The self-titled Michael Hutchence solo album set for release in September 1999. In brighter news, the remaining INXS has picked Terence Trent D'arby to perform in Australia on June 12. He was picked because of his close vocal stylings to Michael. There are also talks of a compilation album that will include as many as four previously unreleased songs. INXS vow to continue moving on, but it will take time. Go To Page: 1
