Blondie: A New CD and a Tour

Ah! Blondie, the name that everyone thought belonged just to the lead singer when it is actually the name of the entire group.

Debbie Harry, the indeed blonde lead singer of Blondie, epitomized the supermodel-waify look way back in the early '80s. The rest of the group includes Chris Stein, the master behind it all, Clem Burke and Jimmy Destri.

Their most popular songs are  "Heart of Glass," "Tide Is High," "Call Me" (how many people do you know that have that song on their answering machine?)  Their videos might have been early incarnations of a new genre of product marketing - a bit amateurish but they are nonetheless, classics. Not only by their videos and musical style, but judging by the number of greatest hits CDs, many music lovers also think they are classic. And now, to continue with their history, the band has released No Exit, their first new album in 16 years, and are on tour for 1999.

It all started in NYC in the '70s with a lineup complete Blondie signed with a label called Private Stock. Chrysalis bought out their contract and all recorded material and released their material all the way up to 1982/3ish when Blondie effectively broke up. They all had solo things going and Debbie took care of the then-boyfriend Chris Stein as he was very ill. The then unknown Duran Duran opened for Blondie during the 1982 "Hunter Tour."

No Exit was released on Beyond/BMG Records in February 1999. Chris Stein spearheaded the reunion that was mostly due to the interest all the remade and greatest hits CDs were generating from the public.
