Rick Springfield is coming out with an album. Who hasn't heard of "Jessie's Girl" as a favorite of the '80s music era? Or "Don't Talk To Strangers"? Or Rick himself playing Rick in the movie Hard to Hold? Long feathered hair, lovely '80s clothes, actor in a soap opera (and more importantly, Battlestar Galactica) and fantastic pop tunes defined the Rickster. "Behind the Music" series on VH1 (USA) music channel announced he will have a new album called Karma to be released in the USA (Japan was earlier) on April 13, 1999. He was on the "Leeza" talk show, "Suddenly Susan" sitcom (potential Susan romance). His next appearance will be on "Howie Mandel" morning talk show on May 5, 1999 according to Loyal Supporter's Fan Club site. He will tour into 2000, though the schedule is tentative. His star may have risen the highest in the '80s, but his career started in the '60s/'early 70s when he joined the teenage band Zoot in his home country of Australia. He traveled to the United States to begin a solo career in the early '70s; he released several albums but nothing came of it. Either he or the record company wanted him to be the next David Cassidy or something; his look is remarkably like his. He started an acting gig on the daytime soap General Hospital when RCA Records signed him and released Working Class Dog with "Jessie's Girl" as the feature single in 1981 and life just hasn't been the same since. It was non-stop for the next few years. The next album (no CDs then) Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet came out in 1982 and produced the hit "Don't Talk To Strangers"; the very next year, Living in Oz was released and the single "Affair of The Heart" went to the Top 10. The perennial playing-yourself-movie-role came his way with the Hard to Hold movie and soundtrack out in 1984 with the singles "Love Somebody" and "Don't Walk Away." Tao was released the following year with the single "State of The Heart." From this point on was a break for Rick Springfield. He married in October 1984 to Barbara and now has two sons, born in 1985 and 1989. It was time to be with family and regroup. His father also passed away in the early '80s.
