Richard Marx: Ballads and Adult Contemporary Music© Michele Morabito
Richard Marx was everywhere in the late '80s with very catchy songs like "Should Have Known Better," "Didn't Mean Nothing," and "Hold Onto the Nights." All those songs came off the first self-titled CD.
In 1989, he married Cynthia Rhodes who appeared in "Dirty Dancing". She was the blonde dancer who had to give up dancing with Patrick Swaze in the movie. Richard did not tour a lot with his career due to his expanding family. He and his wife now have three boys, all under the age of ten. His first release, Repeat Offender came out in 1989 and yielded "Satisfied" and "Right Here Waiting". Two years following that, Rush Street was released. But like most of the artists at that time, grunge was king and Rush Street did not produce any memorable chart-topping hits as it was more blues than rock. His style was going distinctively bluesy-ballad and adult contemporary at this point, but he still topped the charts with his music. Richard and his wife, during the 1990-94 era, had the three children. This slowed the album-making processing down a bit, but Richard came back in 1994 with Paid Vacation. According to his official site, the album did well on the adult contemporary charts featuring the single "Now and Forever." After this album, Richard took a slight break from his own recording career, started writing songs for other artists, contributed to a few benefit albums and spent more time with his family. It wasn't until the spring of 1997 before another CD was released, this time titled Flesh & Bone featuring the single "Until I Find You Again." He was going to promote this record with a tour, but his father passed away unexpectedly and the tour was slimmed down. Richard Marx Greatest Hits was released in 1998. He is planning to release another CD out in 1999 on his own label as his contract with Capitol Records is now fulfilled. He was recently seen plugging for NARAS, as an advocate for keeping music and art education in schools. Go To Page: 1
