The songs of summer are upon us. Along with original tunes, we have our fair share of great '80s remakes.
Canadian artist
Celine Dion has redone
Cyndi Lauper's
"I Drove All Night". It is also airing in a new Chrysler commercial. The single is from her CD
One Heart which came out March 25th. Celine is currently appearing in Las Vegas at Caesar's Palace for the next three years.
Cyndi Lauper is currently on a summer tour with
Meatlof and starring in a Dr. Pepper commercial. She recently finished a tour with
Cher.
Crowded House's
"Don't Dream It's Over" was reworked by Sixpence None The Richer (of Dawson's Creek fame) for the soundtrack to
How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. The film starred Mathhew McConaughey and Kate Hudson and also appears on their CD called
Divine Discontent.
In what could only be described as the weirdest news ever,
Fred Durst of
Limp Biskit has formed another band called
Pacifica which has an '80s, new wave-influenced batch of songs that Durst has described as reminiscent more of
Duran Duran and
Soft Cell than
Howard Jones or
A Flock of Seagulls. Adding, it will be a more polished, modern takeoff of those things. The CD has no current release date.
On a slightly different note, there is a
Tears for Fears remake of
"Everybody Want to Rule the World" on a commercial for 10-10-987, a telephone service. However, it is instrumental only.
