Please note: this article has nowt to do with Online Multiuser Text Games, but I was so excited about some upcoming events, that I thought I would play my hand at writing an off-topic article that might fit in to their themes.
I first came into contact with Greek mythology as a freshman in high school, at my tiny, sheltered, private Catholic girls school. Little did they know they would be laying the foundations for a life of Paganism. Nevertheless, Edith Hamilton's "Mythology" became my personal Bible, and it still is the most well-read book on my shelf. At age 15, I decided to name my first daughter (whenever I have her) after the Moon goddess "Artemis." Since in modern-day Greece, I am told Artemis is a boy's name, my hairdresser at the time--a wonderfully colourful Greek fellow--suggested "Artemia," and it stuck. After all, I could always call her "Mia" for short, a name I've been fond of ever since Mia Farrow herself held me in her arms when I was three, whilst filming "Purple Rose of Cairo" in my grandmother's backyard (well, right next door to my grandma's backyard!). Now at age 21, I am still formulating my beliefs, shifting and learning every day. I come from the school of though not unlike that of ancient Norse peoples, where life is about the process of learning and awakening knowledge within you, and the day you have nothing left to learn might as well be the day you die. I am still intensely drawn to Greek mythology, so much so that I believe the most correct "label" for me, if one wishes to place such labels, is "Greek polytheist." Yep. People like me STILL exist, even with the advent of science and technology! That brings me around to the present day. Or more correctly, yesterday. I was sitting at my desk at work, plugging away at this week's payroll, when suddenly the phone rang with an important announcement: I am going to be a mother for the seventh time.
