Plus Size Pregnancy

© Mary Ellen Popolo

When my husband and I decided it was time to start a family I was thrilled. The thought of becoming pregnant was an exciting prospect. Then it dawned on me – could I actually have a baby at my weight? I couldn’t help but wonder if my weight would interfere with my ability to become pregnant, the pregnancy itself, or the delivery. A trip to the doctor eased my fears. My doctor said that he didn’t think that my weight would be an issue at all.

Once I got the go ahead from the doctor most of my fears and concerns were put to rest. However, I still had some concerns. This prompted what began my long search for information on the Internet. I found tons of websites with information pertaining to plus size woman and pregnancy. Unfortunately, most of the information tended to lean towards the negative – reasons why plus size woman should NOT become pregnant and the loads of complications that would arise during pregnancy if the woman were not at an ideal weight. I found very little information that showed that an overweight woman could have an uneventful pregnancy and delivery. Why is it assumed that just because a woman is overweight that she will encounter a huge amount of problems during her pregnancy, or that her weight will complicate her delivery?

I’m not saying that there aren’t sites out there that support plus size pregnancy. And I am not condemning all websites pertaining to pregnancy for portraying plus size pregnancy in a negative manner. However, my opinion is that the majority of pregnancy related sites don’t view plus size pregnancy favorably.

During my searches, I was directed to a site on plus size pregnancy that shows that plus size women CAN become pregnant and have healthy happy babies with uneventful pregnancies.

Although the site is geared for the plus size woman, it contains many resources, links and valuable information. This site is so informative that I would highly recommend it to any women who is pregnant or trying to become pregnant, regardless of their size. For the plus size woman there is no end to the information available.

This site is owned and maintained by Kmom. Kmom is a plus size mother and as you can see by visiting her site, she has put a lot of time and effort into this site. (Kmom is not a doctor and the information available should not be taken as medical advice. Please read the disclaimer!) I hope you will find it as informative as I did.
