All About Nannies

One of the earliest articles I wrote for the Working Mothers topic was an account of my experience with Live-In Nannies. Some nannies I had were good and others were not-so-good. The Nanny agencies were very efficient at getting through the paperwork for the overseas nannies and had an extensive file on each candidate. Where they lacked experience is telling you what to do when you have this stranger arrive at the door. Sure, they told you the tax laws and labour laws, but nothing about what you should expect from your nanny and what the nanny expects from you.

Chandra Bloodgood has written an informative course called Nanny 101 for Suite University. Chandra worked as a nanny and shares her experience for the benefit of new nannies, people considering becoming a nanny and parents (employers). Her first-hand knowledge is totally beneficial for first timers. Chandra comments on the lack of information available on the nanny profession and it is very true.

The course is divided up into four sections: Nanny Basics, Finding a Job, Getting a Job, and On the Job. She stresses the importance of the job interview. Considering that a nanny will be part of a household, it is essential to ensure that the nanny is a good fit. Chandra has prepared a list of questions that a nanny candidate should ask the family as well as questions the family should ask the nanny.

The last section of the course is devoted to the job itself. What do you do all day? What are the rights of the nanny and the rights of the family? What happens if there is a conflict? How does everyone work together? Caring for your children is extremely important and the role of a nanny requires responsibility, efficiency along with a dash of ingenuity.

If you are thinking of becoming a nanny or hiring a nanny, this course is for you!

You have two course options. There is a Quick course for $24.95 where it is open to you for 30 days. The Interactive Course sells for $29.95 and you have the opportunity to communicate with Chandra and other students through an online discussion area. This course is also open for 30 days.
