Valentine's Day is almost here. And if you're a romantic at heart, you may be thinking of adding some romantic touches to your home. But, where do you start? Can it be done on a budget? How can you get a great romantic look in your home that looks great long after Valentine's Day?
Kitchen/Dining Room - Try as I might, I can't think of anything more romantic that roses. But I know they can be expensive. So don't stop at the florist to pick up a dozen roses, try your local discount warehouse store or a roadside fruit stand or nursery. (My Costco sells gorgeous roses at a reasonable price.) What's that, you say you're not a "rose person"? No need to worry, most any flowers look wonderful in a porcelain, ceramic or crystal vase, picked up at a garage sale, of course. (After the roses lose their oomph, use the petals for homemade potpourri.) If you're lucky enough to live in the country or anyplace where wildflowers are easily found, gather up a colorful bunch and place a vaseful on your kitchen table. If you're looking for a way to use flowers creatively this Valentine's Day, check out How to Make the Heart of Flowers on the Victoria Magazine site. Dainty, vintage china also brings a romantic air to any kitchen -- especially white and pastel china, and those adorned with a floral pattern. Recently I picked up several plates at a junk shop, mismatched and in varying shades of white and ivory. When I grouped them together and hung them on a wall, the look was simple and elegant. And talk about budget decorating -- my most expensive plate was only $2! Bedroom - Whether you're a newlywed, married for decades, or single and loving it, adding a splash of romance to your bedroom can be a true luxury. The classic romantic addition is a canopy made of netting, draped over the headboard. I checked these out at a pricey home decor shop and they were very expensive. But you can purchase netting on the cheap at fabric stores and make your own very easily. Go To Page: 1 2
