The Pilot Pentopia Chameleon has been around for a long time. There's a reason for that - it's one of the best stylii on the market. It's small, slim, light, comes in cool colors, has a nice long metal reset pin, and is a pen as well as a stylus.
The Chameleon actually comes in several different models designed for different devices. There is a fair amount of variation in the size, color availability, and design of the models. I have one of the original Chameleons, designed for Pilot, PalmPilot, and Palm III-style devices. This model comes with a stainless steel barrel and your choice of blue-gray, translucent blue, translucent green, and translucent purple tips. The blue-gray model looks very business-like while the translucent versions are hip and cool. I have a blue-gray model and I've seen the translucent green and it's amazing how just a color change can affect the timbre of the product. Unlike many combination pen/stylus devices, the Chameleon puts the pen and the stylus on opposite ends of the barrel. The tip on the stylus side is about an inch long and unscrews to reveal a quarter inch long metal reset pin that should fit the reset hole of pretty much any device. The pen side has a matching cap that fits snug and looks like it could be another screwon tip. A fine tip black ball point pen is underneath. The cap will also sit on the stylus end with some judicious pushing. The pen writes well with good ink flow. Because the stylus is so small it's a little awkward to write with but it works well as for signatures or short notes. I wouldn't write long letters with it. The stylus is lighter than any other full stylus I've used. Considering it has a pen in there too that's a big accomplishment. The weight takes some getting used to when you're writing on your Palm, but once I adjusted I found the stylus very accurate and that it didn't hurt or tire my hand at all. It hasn't replaced my pro-techniq stylus, but if I ever run out of pro-techniqs I'm pretty sure I'll turn to the Chameleon as my every day stylus. The Pilot Pentopia Stylus retails for $18.99 and can be found at most stores that carry PDAs and PDA products. Go To Page: 1
