Earth Day Mug Rug and Place Mat
by

Happy Earth Day a bit early! To get you started, here's an idea which uses those overwhelming piles of plastic grocery bags. MUG RUG Materials: two average size plastic grocery bags J crochet hook (American) Directions: Cut bags into strips around two inches wide. I cut mine in a spiral fashion statring at the top of the bag. This way you have a bag cut in a continuous strip. Don't worry if its a bit irregular. This will give the piece some character. When strips are cut chain 10 stitches. *chain one, and single crochet across.* Repeat for 14 rows. Break off yarn (plastic?) and pull through last loop. Weave in end. Great! Now you have a lovely mugrug. PLACE MAT Flollow directions above except that you chain 25 stitches for the foundation chain. I like this project as it is great for teaching kids to think recycling and multi-use of materials. And it makes attractive washable household items! Happy Earth Day! Lil
