Suite101

Where you been, Laze?

I can hear my regular readers now... "What a gwaan with Laze?" I know, I've been away from Suite101 for nearly two months now, but let me assure you: I have a good excuse.

To start, on September 1, I got married to my girlfriend of seven years. It was an incredible day, with friends and family coming from all over the country. While having a Buddhist reading at oue Christian ceremony may have been a little different, or serving up family recipes of Polish and Vietnamese food may have shown our "personal touch," one of the most unique parts of the day was our first dance.

As Half Pint's webmaster, I've gotten to know him pretty well over the last five years. It was during our first meeting that he mentioned to me, "When you get married, Ryan, I will sing at your wedding." Needless to say, I kept this idea in the back of my head and took him up on his offer when the time came.

So, to add to our already special day, Half Pint sang "Giving/Sharing" from the soundtrack to The Mighty Quinn, which was an appropriate tune since it was a specifically marriage-oriented song ("Now we are married... / As we slowly walk down the aisle, / Looking at each other with a smile, / So proud to know that you're my bride, / And honored to wear my wedding band..."). It worked out wonderfully, even though there didn't seem to be an instrumental or a dub version in existence anywhere. There's no doubt that of all the memories, the one of Half Pint singing to us as we shared our first dance will be among the top.

Later in the evening, Pint sang "Have a Little Faith." The response on both songs from everybody was excellent. Pint was in top form and was very gracious and humble, pausing for pictures with friends and family members (including a great one before the wedding with my neice, see right). Big up to Pint and his manager Loyal for making this possible. My wife and I couldn't be happier that he was involved, adding his own little dose of "something special" to our day.

I will return next time around, "business as usual," with a review of a new Easy Star release.
