This is a great book for anyone who enjoys mysteries. I believe this book contains the elements of the subgenres of Detective Fiction and Suspense.

The main characters are Quinn McKay, who is a private investigator, Tracy Huddleston-Gardner, and her daughter, Melody.

Quinn was to investigate murders that were happening in Ojai Valley. He was a handyman for Tracy Huddleston-Gardner who was a guitar maker. Something was happening in Ojai Valley besides the murders. Something was very mysterious about Tracy. She was also being framed for the murders. Quinn was to investigate the murders and to find out more about Tracy. What was she hiding? What was her relationship with Melody, her daughter, really like? The more Quinn became acquainted with them, the more mysterious she seemed. Quinn also became concerned about Melody. He wondered if Melody's mother was treating her okay. Something in their relationship didn't seem quite right to him, but he was determined to find out what it was.

Quinn was also concerned about his girl friend, Francesca. He found out that she was missing. As a result, he wanted to solve this investigation of the murders so he could go and search for Francesca. However, he was torn between wanting to find Francesca and trying to figure out what was happening with Tracy and Melody.

As I read the book, I knew that Tracy was acting mysteriously. She was hiding something, but I didn't know what. The way it was written made me wonder if she was abusing her daughter, Melody. Then, I thought she was not wanting to reveal something about her past. Her actions and the dialogue revealed something mysterious about her personality, but I wasn't sure what. As a result, she became a realistic person. I wanted to keep reading to find out more about Tracy and her secret. Tracy was one character whom I have read about who really seemed to be realistic. That's what made the book more interesting. I just kept wanting to read it and find out what she was hiding.

I felt like the author portrayed Quinn, Tracy, and Melody as realistic characters. As I read the book, I could tell that Quinn was persistent. He was determined to find out what was happening between Tracy and Melody.

The details of the murder victim and some of the language were the only parts I wasn't too fond of reading, but I did enjoy the book. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading a good mystery book.
