Billy J. Kramer And The Dakotas had a double-sided hit, ”Little Children”, a May entry that went to no. 7/backed by ”Bad To Me”, a no. 9 smash (mid-June). Their mid-Aug. entry, ”I'll Keep You Satisfied” peaked at no. 30 and ”From A Window” made no. 23 (late Sept). This would be their last top 40 hit.

Bobby Vinton was still going strong; a May entry, ”My Heart Belongs To Only You” was a no. 9 hit. ”Tell Me Why” made no. 13 (late May). ”Clinging Vine” peaked at no. 17 (late Aug.) and ”Mr. Lonely” gave the singer his fourth no. 1 smash (early Nov).

Sam Cooke also had four top 40 hits. ”Good News”, a mid-Feb. entry, was a no. 11 hit. The double-sided hit, “Good Times”, a late June entry, also reached no. 11/backed by ”Tennessee Waltz” which peaked at no. 35 (July). ”Cousin Of Mine”, a late October entry, peaked at no. 31. The following year would bring the singer one of his greatest successes, but unfortunately, he wouldn't live long enough to see it.

Chubby Checker was still hanging in there, with 3 hits: ”Hooka Tooka” was a no. 17 hit (Jan.), while ”Hey, Bobba Needle”, an April entry, peaked at no. 23. And ”Lazy Elsie Molly” only reached no. 40 (July).

The Ray Charles Singers
(No, not THAT Ray Charles) were hot this year. ”Love Me With All Your Heart”, a May entry, was a no. 3 smash. ”Al-Di-La” reached no. 29 (late July), and “One More Time” peaked at no. 32 (late Dec. entry). And the group charted no more.

Motown continued as a musical force to be reckoned with.

One of its groups, The Supremes, became the company's biggest breakout stars and would go on to become the top female group of the decade, and the second most successful 60s act. The trio had three no. 1's this year alone, back-to-back! ”Where Did Our Love Go”, a late July entry was the first. “Baby Love” was no. 1 for four weeks! (Oct. entry). And a late Nov. entry, ”Come See About Me” capped off their year at no. 1.

Another Motown group made their top 40 debut as The Temptations took ”The Way You Do The Things You Do”, a late March entry, to no. 11. ”I'll Be In Trouble” peaked at no. 33 (July). ”Girl (Why You Wanna Make Me Blue)” made no. 26 (late Sept).
