The Dave Clark Five (DC5) were second only to The Beatles in the top 40 this year, with a total of seven hits! ”Glad All Over”, their U.S, debut, entered the top 40 in March, and went to no. 6. April saw Bits And Pieces” climb to no. 4.
Their May entry, ”Do You Love Me” ( a remake of The Contours' '62 smash) went to no. 11. ”Can't You See That She's Mine” returned the group to the top ten at no. 4 (late June). ”Because” was a no. 3 smash in Aug. ”Everybody Knows ( I Still Love You)” peaked at no. 15 (mid-Oct. release). And ”Any Way You Want It” capped off the year at no. 14 (early Dec). The Four Seasons continued their red-hot streak, also having seven hits this year! Released in February, ”Dawn (Go Away)” was a no. 3 smash. ”Stay” ( a remake of the Maurice Williams And The Zodiacs' '60 smash) peaked at no. 16 (March). They returned to the top 10 with ”Ronnie”, no. 6 by mid-April. ”Rag Doll”, a late June entry, was their fourth no. 1 smash (and their last no. 1 of the decade). ”Alone” peaked at no. 28 (late June also), but ”Save It For Me” was a no. 10 hit (September). And ”Big Man In Town”, a late Nov. entry, peaked at no. 20. The Beach Boys were also red-hot, as ”Fun, Fun, Fun” ( a late Feb. entry) became a no. 5 smash. Their first no. 1 was I Get Around” (June)/backed by ”Don't Worry Baby”, no. 24, late June. ”When I Grow Up (To Be A Man)” hit no. 9 (a late Sept. entry), while ”Dance, Dance, Dance” capped off their year at no. 8 (late November). The Impressions had five top 40 hits this year. The late Jan. entry, ”Talking About My Baby” became a no. 12 hit. ”I'm So Proud” peaked at no. 14 (late April). Keep On Pushing” was a no. 10 smash (late June). You Must Believe Me”, a late Sept. entry, went to no. 15. And ”Amen” returned the trio to the top ten (no. 7, a mid-Dec. entry) The Searchers also had five hits: Needles And Pins” hit no. 13 (mid-March entry). ”Don't Throw Your Love Away” hit no. 16 (late June chart entry). ”Some Day We're Gonna Love Again” peaked at no. 34 (mid-Sept.), and ”When You Walk In the Room” hit no. 35 (mid-Nov. entry). But ”Love Portion Number Nine”a Dec. chart entry and remake of The Clovers hit) gave them a no. 3 smash and their biggest hit.
