Former Dokken, MSG and Dio bass player Jeff Pilson has reunited with former Dokken bandmate George Lynch for a new CD called Wicked Underground. Pilson is the lead vocalist for Lynch/Pilson and also played bass and keyboards and produced and engineered the album.

Pilson's joined Dokken for 1984's Tooth and Nail album, and stayed with the band until it broke up in early 1989. Dokken reunited in 1995, and Pilson remained with the band through 1999's Erase The Slate. Pilson joined the McAuley-Schenker group for 1992's MSG. He then joined Dio and appeared on 1994's Strange Highways and 1996's Strange Machines album.

In addition to L/P, Jeff Pilson is the lead singer for War and Peace, who are working on a new album. Pilson is also in demand as a producer for artists in many different genres, such as rapper Brooks Buford and the band Clear Static.

Pilson also appeared in the movie Rock Star with Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston. In the interview we discussed his current projects, his Dokken days, acting, and many other topics:

Chad Bowar: How did the Lynch-Pilson CD come about, and how has the response been so far?

Jeff Pilson: George's manager at the time approached me (this was in November 2001) and asked me if I would be interested in doing a record with George. I hadn't spoken with George in four years. I said I love to do a record, I'm just not sure where our head spaces were at. We hadn't parted on the friendliest of terms when he left Dokken. We talked and everything was fine. We realized we were totally on track and wanted to make a record together. So we did. It took a year and a half.

The response has been just amazing. I'm so pleased with it. The reaction has been phenomenal. I just hope everybody that would like this record gets a chance to hear it.

Where did the title Wicked Underground come from?

We held a contest on my web site, and at the time we were looking for a band name. Lynch-Pilson was where we ended up. We originally wanted to have a band name, but nothing seemed to work. The winner we picked for this contest said Wicked Underground. I think it was a tongue-in-cheek thing, because it was a combination of George's Wicked Sensation record and my Underground Moon band. It just kind of stuck.

Do you have any tour plans?
